Habanada's Cheap and EZ Eats: Second Course - Corned Beef and Onions

I either ate this dish as a meal or my mom used to serve this as a pupu when my dad's friends would come over and drink Primo Beer.


Corned Beef and Onions

Ingredients
1 can corned beef
1 medium or large round onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, chopped
pepper

1/8 cup shoyu
1/8 cup sugar (or less if using a sweet onion such as Maui onion)
a touch of water

Instructions
1. Add a little oil to a heated pan. On medium-high heat, sauté the corned beef, breaking up the bigger pieces and melting down the solidified fat. Remove from pan.

2. In the same pan, heat up a little more oil. Add the sliced onions; sprinkle with pepper. Sauté. [If you like a little more scorchiness to your onions, sauté on high heat, but stir constantly to avoid burning.]

3. When the onions are somewhat golden and turning translucent, add the chopped garlic. Sauté.

4. When the onions are crisp or tender to your liking, add the shoyu, sugar, and water mixture. Stir well.
5. Add the corned beef back to the pan and mix well.
6. Serve over hot rice.

I've never done this before, but the innratationel school my dd goes to assigned the kids to make Leprechaun traps. (you can find them on google)They set the traps at school, but the sneaky guy got away. He left gold coin chocolates for their efforts
